The CONCACAF Gold Cup

Your guide for the tournament
The CONCACAF Gold Cup, the continental tournament involving North American, Central American, and Caribbean countries (like the EURO in the UEFA zone for example), kicks off Friday, with the game between Canada and French Guiana. This biennial competition takes place this year in the United States and the final is set to be played at Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara. RDS and TSN will broadcast in Canada all games of this tournament that will put forward many MLS players and the three Montreal players called up by the Reds: Patrice Bernier, Maxime Crépeau and Anthony Jackson-Hamel.
The Gold Cup trophy has never left North America since its inauguration, in 1991. First, because the tournament was only won by Mexico – seven times –, the United States – with five wins – and Canada – back in 2000 –, but also because the US have always hosted the competition, sharing the organization with Mexico twice and another time with Canada.
The 2017 Gold Cup champion will play a knockout game with the 2019 champion to determine who will represent CONCACAF at the 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup, in Qatar.
