Checking in with Alejandro Silva

Uruguayan international has started seven consecutive games

Since his transfer from the Argentinean Superliga on March 19, we can clearly see that Ale Silva’s form improve as his minutes add up in MLS. After coming on and playing the last 10 minutes in a 1-0 win against Seattle, Silva has started seven consecutive games with the Bleu-blanc-noir, playing in a variety of positions under head coach Rémi Garde.

“I feel good,” said Silva. “This league is different that the Superliga in Argentina. Other than the results, which can definitely be better, I feel good physically, and I’m starting to get used to the style of play more and more.”

Silva has already occupied a number of roles in the Impact’s offense, most notably as an attacking midfielder, sharing the middle with the likes of Samuel Piette and Saphir Taïder, or on the right wing, a position he was more used to with his former team, Club Atlético Lanús.

“I was used to playing more on the wing in Argentina,” added Silva. “On the wings, you have a lot of the field in front of you, whereas playing more in the middle, often you find yourself with your back to the goal. It’s mainly different when you receive the ball.”

Silva said he’s enjoyed playing in both positions, although nothing is ever that enjoyable when you’re in the middle of a difficult period.

“When the results aren’t going your way, nothing you do seems good enough,” said Silva. “I’m working hard to try and adapt as fast as possible.”

Silva earned assists in back to back games, in a loss to Atlanta and a victory over New England at Stade Saputo. He’ll be looking to get back on the scoresheet Monday when Zlatan Ibrahimović and the LA Galaxy come to town.

“I don’t think I need to tell you who Zlatan is and what he does,” added Silva. “I’m focused on the game because we need the three points. Zlatan will do what he does, and we’ll do what we need to do to win this game.”
