Montreal looking to bounce back with big road win

CF Montréal is back in action this Saturday night to take on Austin FC at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, with kick-off set for 8:30pm EST. You can watch the game live with MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or listen on the radio on BPM Sports and CJAD 800.

Head coach Hernán Losada’s men will be looking to bounce back in a big way this Saturday, in a stadium that isn’t easy to play in. Austin lost just three games at Q2 Stadium in 2022.

"We have a good idea of how Austin plays," said head coach Hernan Losada. “They're a good team with a lot of attacking ability and a good midfield. We will try to play our game and not adapt to the rival. It's important to keep our principles and our philosophy of play."

Several Homegrown players played their first minutes with the Club in the very first game of the season last Saturday against Inter Miami. Midfielder Nathan Saliba got his first start with the team, while Sean Rea came on in the second half. Quebec goalie Jonathan Sirois made his first appearance late in the game due to a shoulder injury suffered by James Pantemis, who will miss this upcoming game against the Verde.

We finally got to see Chinonso Offor in action as well, the big 6 foot 3 forward with an imposing physique and speed on the field.

Defender Aaron Herrera, acquired during the offseason from Real Salt Lake, also played his first minutes with the Club. He displayed his and created some great scoring opportunities in our opening game, according to our head coach Hernán Losada.

"Aaron came here to play fullback, but he's played a lot of games as a centre-back before," added Losada. “So, it's not a new position for him. It's nice to work with players that can play both positions."

Our next opponent, Austin FC, is also looking for their first points of the season. Austin lost 3-2 to expansion side St. Louis CITY SC in their opening game and will be looking to earn its first points of the season when the Montreal side pays a visit this Saturday.

Joel Waterman could be back with us this Saturday as well. He was not in uniform last Saturday after feeling some discomfort during the last training before the game.

CF Montréal will be back on the road next weekend to take on Nashville SC on Saturday, March 11, at 8:30pm EST, before returning home to take on the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, March 18, at 7:30pm. Tickets for our home opener available here.
