Breaking records in September

A look at which milestones you might’ve missed this month

This season has seen a lot of Impact players break some longstanding club records. In case you’ve been too caught up in the playoff race to have noticed some of these milestones, here are some of the records that were broken, or are within reach, in September.

Samuel Piette has already made his mark on club history, just over a year after joining the Bleu-blanc-noir. The game against Philadelphia Union last week, in which the Impact won 4-1, was the Canadian midfielder’s 29th consecutive start, beating an old club record held jointly by Mauro Biello and Gabriel Gervais.

His 30th start, against New York City FC just a few days ago, ties him with defender Jeb Brovsky for the most consecutives games played in a season.

Nacho Piatti has found a way to add an extra dimension to his game this season, as the Argentine continues to rack up assists. His three assists in Philadelphia brought the Designated Player to 12 on the season, beating the club’s MLS record for most assist in a season, previously at 10 and held by three players.

Another assist against New York City FC on the Impact’s lone goal brings Piatti to 13, tying an all-time club record set by Mauro Biello in 1998. And it was a gem.

Evan Bush has been solid all-season long for the Bleu-blanc-noir in nets, and his play will allow him to reach another important milestone, assuming he’s between the pipes when the Impact visits Audi Field this Saturday. If he is, it’ll be the American goalkeeper’s 31st consecutive start, tying a record set by Troy Perkins in 2013.

Bush is also getting closer to Perkins’ 2013 record of 57 saves on the road, the American netminder currently at 54 with two road games left. Also, if he starts every game this season, he’ll be the first Impact keeper to do so since Pat Harrington did it in 1993. Finally, with eight clean sheets this year, Bush gets closer to his own record of 9 shutouts, set in 2015.

Saphir Taïder’s record run of most consecutive games with at least a shot came to an end Saturday against NYCFC, the Algerian international failing to take a shot for the first time in 23 consecutive games, a club record, in which he managed 65 shots.

The previous record was held by the club’s first Designated Player, Marco Di Vaio, who took shot in 18 straight games for a total of 67 attempts.
