Impact has never won at home against NYCFC
The Impact suffered its first loss of the season at home last Saturday after going on a nine-game unbeaten streak at Stade Saputo; the Citizens, on their end, have never lost in Montreal after four visits to the Quebec metropolis. Things were made difficult early in this one, when the hosts conceded in the sixth minute, and the mountain proved itself too steep to climb for an offensive unit that managed no shots on goal. Still, Rémi Garde’s men weren’t frugal in the final third, creating seven scoring chances, including two very good ones for Saphir Taïder from a cross in the first half, and for Orji Okwonkwo off a corner.
Offensively, the team is still going through an adjustment phase in the absence of Nacho Piatti: the Impact has scored just six goals in eight games without the Argentine, meaning it relies a lot on the team’s defensive performances, which must keep the opponent at bay for as long as possible. That being said, the Impact has only secured points during this sequence of games when it keeps a clean sheet against its opponent. It should make for an arduous yet interesting task at Red Bull Arena, this Wednesday at 8pm (TVA Sports, 98,5, TSN 690), against the New York Red Bulls. While we wait, here are your advanced stats:
