Tough loss keeps Montreal in sixth for now
It wasn’t a pretty site when it was all said and done against D.C. United at Audi Field. But is the lopsided scoreline indicative of how the game was played out? Not exactly. The Montreal Impact went into the dressing room down a goal but having dominated the first 45, without being able to get one past goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who made his fair share of nice saves on the evening. But a goal conceded early in the second half made the Bleu-blanc-noir’s task all the harder, in a night where not much went its way.
Rémi Garde’s men can find strength in the fact that they still remain in the sixth and last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with three games left to play. Does their destiny still remain in their own hands? Not as much before. D.C. United’s win over the Impact brings it within two points of the Bleu-blanc-noir, with two games in hand. But the Black and Red still need the results.
