Advanced stats: a good game, despite the loss

Silva v ATL

If the Impact could not take away points on Saturday night after Atlanta United’s visit to Stade Saputo, we can at least say that in the content, Montreal was able to go blow for blow with the top team in MLS at the moment. In an intense, engaging game, during which the crowd in the Bleu-blanc-noir’s stands showed once again why it holds such a good reputation across North America, Rémi Garde’s men unfortunately did not have enough in the tank, having arrived from Vancouver on Thursday morning with a red-eye flight and benefitting from only a day of recovery to face a rested team.

Saturday’s visitors managed only one more shot than the Impact, the hosts dominating possession and completing about 100 more passes than Tata Martino’s team. Thus, even though the team did not manage a feat, as mentioned our head coach, there is a lot of positives in the performance. It’s definitely encouraging ahead of the month of August, which will be critical in the MLS Cup playoff race. Here are your advanced stats.

Possession: 56.2% for the Impact, 85% passing accuracy on a total of 489 passes attempted, 75% passing accuracy in the opponent’s half on a total of 301 passes attempted.

Ale Silva: 3 shots, 2 on target, 28 passes completed, including 12 in the final third, for a 74% success rate, 5 chances created, 1 cross completed, 5 duels won, 2 tackles won, 1 clearance, 2 aerial duels won, 3 recoveries.

Saphir Taïder: 4 shots, 3 on target, 37 passes completed, including 8 in the final third, for a 93% success rate, 1 duel won, 1 tackle won, 5 recoveries.

Samuel Piette: 54 passes completed, including 11 in the final third, for an 87% success rate, 2 duels won, 2 interceptions, 1 clearance, 1 aerial duel won, 5 recoveries.
