All downhill for Montreal after fifth minute
The Impact did start this game off on the right foot. The Bleu-blanc-noir dominated possession in the first five minutes, dictating the pace of the game and even creating two shooting opportunities. But a turnover and a pass behind the defense later and all of a sudden, it’s 1-0 for the Reds. That goal most definitely hurt Montreal’s morale and confidence, who conceded two more times in the first half-hour. And despite Alejandro Silva’s rocket giving the Bleu-blanc-noir a glimmer of hope, it was too little, too late.
Let’s nevertheless praise the team’s determination, led by a resolute Saphir Taïder, at the end of the first half. On three occasions, the Algerian international created excellent scoring chances, but two offside calls and a defensive block from Toronto squashed any hope of a Bleu-blanc-noir comeback.
