The Bleu-blanc-noir had a successful start to the season, including against its last two opponents from MLS academies, the New England Revolution and New York City FC, but the Philadelphia Union made sure to finish its opportunities, winning two of the three games against the Impact last Saturday.
The Impact U15 tied 1-1, while the U17 and U19 Impact teams both lost 2-0 against the club from Pennsylvania.
The Impact U15 gets a point
The Union applied high pressure in the first 25 minutes of the game, making it tough for Serge Dinkota’s players to come out of their zone. They scored the first goal on a corner kick in the 17th minute, off a header.
The Bleu-blanc-noir took control of the game after that and found solutions to the problems the Union was causing. After a few chances in the opening half, the first goal came from Maximilian Banfi’s foot in the 57th minute. The winger did a one-two with defender Mathias Béland before entering the box and scoring with a shot to the bottom left corner.
With most of the ball, the Impact continued to create chances, but wasn’t able to find the back of the net.
The Impact U15 remains unbeaten this season with a 5-0-1 record and is still first of its division in front of the Boston Bolts.
The Impact U17 loses
The Impact U17 had a few chances in the first half, the first one coming in the 4th minute when Matthew Catavolo took a half-volley that forced the keeper to make a diving save.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Collins made some key saves after that to keep his team in the game until halftime.
Despite a bigger amount of possession in the second half, the Union scored twice to get the win at Centre Nutrilait.
With a 4-2-0 record, the Impact U17 is now second in its group, behind the New England Revolution.
The Impact U19 loses for first time this season
Philadelphia was able to take advantage of two mistakes from the Impact U19 to punish it in the first half and score the only two goals of the game. The first one was from the penalty spot, and the second one off a missed kick in Montreal’s box, when the ball ended up on a Union forward’s foot and he scored.
The Bleu-blanc-noir was much better in the second half and created many chances, but the Union’s put up a strong performance.
The Impact lost 2-0, its first loss this season, against a good Philadelphia team.
Philippe Eullaffroy’s men have a 4-1-0 record, still good for the first place in the Northeast division.
Next games
The Impact teams will play their next Development Academy games on October 21 in Epping, New Hampshire, against Seacoast United.
The U15 will be in action at 9am, the U17 at 11am and the U19 at 1pm.
