Ghanaian winger set for end of preseason

Flashy hair, big smile, speed that burns: Dominic Oduro has definitely made a lot of fans since he landed in Montreal, two years ago. Having found his stride in the dangerous attacking trio formed by himself, Nacho Piatti and Matteo Mancosu, he is adamant that one of the three will score over 20 goals in 2017. The freaky fast 31-year-old gave Impact Media his feelings about tonight’s game against Philadelphia Union, which will be broadcast live on impactmontreal.com at 7pm.

What are the collective objectives for tonight’s game, which is the penultimate game of training camp and the last one against MLS opposition? “I think set pieces are crucial, last year it hurt us a lot,” remembers the Bleu-blanc-noir’s No. 7. “We want to avoid that, and also as much as possible controlling the game more, like we did in the first half against D.C. I think we lost our cool a bit, that’s why D.C. equalized after a couple of minutes when they controlled the game better than we did. We want to avoid that. Also, this year, we want to do a better job collectively at winning the ball higher up the field. In order to do that, it’s a matter of controlling the game. I know we cannot control the whole game, the whole 90 minutes, but as much as possible, we want everything to be in our favour.”

The attacking line is now amongst the most dangerous in MLS. “Our forward line, the three of us, myself, Piatti and Mancosu, we have a system of play that has clicked since the latter part of the season. We have matured into that and we know each other’s mechanics, how we move.”

To finish, what does he think of Dominic Oduro, the rookie who was drafted in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Seattle Sounders FC? “There’s only one Dominic Oduro. Period. The other one doesn’t count… sort of,” he says, with his characteristic smile.
