On Friday, the Montreal Impact Academy sports-etudes program officially embarked on its second campaign as it held an orientation presentation for its second year students.
“A new school year begins, and with it, a new soccer season for our Academy players. We will be looking for progress and performance from our players with the things they learn on the pitch,” said Academy director Philippe Eullaffroy.
He, along with his staff, made a presentation for the 2012/2013 season to the newest members of the Academy and their parents, at Edouard-Montpetit high school, on the demands and requirements for the upcoming season.
As part of orientation, sporting director Nick De Santis presented Academy graduate Karl W. Ouimette with a framed jersey in honour of him being the first ever Academy product to sign a deal with the club in MLS. Ouimette then presented all the 2012 high school graduates from the Academy with a gift as their names were called to the stage to honour their achievements.
Year two of the program sees 89 students in its sports-etude program, ranging from the Espoirs teams (starting at 12 years old) to U18s. The second season also marks the first time the U15/16 and the U17/18 teams will be playing in the prestigious USSDA Development League, which will provide a good competition and development for the Impact’s young players.
“There is a lot of excitement within our staff but also with our players and their parents,” added Eullaffroy. “We hope to have a season of good fortune, both on the field and in the classroom.”
