Among the featured AC Milan players are goalkeepers Nelson Dida and Christian Abbiati, defenders Alessandro Nesta and Luca Antonini, midfielders Massimo Ambrosini, Mathieu Flamini, Clarence Seedorf and Ronaldinho, as well as forwards Alexandre Pato and Filippo Inzaghi.
“AC Milan is one of the greatest clubs in the world and the team will come to Montreal with its best players. This will be extraordinary,” noted Montreal Impact technical director Nick De Santis. “They have fans worldwide. Soccer enthusiasts of all nationalities know these players. It will be a unique chance to see them play.”
Ronaldinho was elected the best player in the world in 2005. He scored 30 goals with Brazil’s national team. Before joining AC Milan, the 30-year-old player evolved with FC Barcelona from 2003 to 2008, winning the Champions League in 2006. Ronaldinho scored more than 70 goals in Liga A, in Spain. This year, he registered 10 goals in 35 Serie A matches.
Ambrosini, AC Milan’s team captain, played 250 matches with the club and wore the colours of the Italian national team for more than 10 years. Seedorf, who scored more than 50 goals in Serie A and who played more than 80 matches with the Dutch national team, is the only player to have won the UEFA Champions League with three different clubs. Flamini, a 26-year-old player, played four seasons with the English club Arsenal before joining Milan in 2008. Pato, a young Brazilian striker, scored up to now 12 goals in 22 current season matches. He took part in the U20 FIFA World Cup held in Montreal in 2007. Inzaghi, a former international Italian player, is a 36-year-old veteran who scored more than 100 goals with AC Milan since 2001.
MORE THAN 25,000 TICKETS SOLD
The Impact also announced on Friday that more than 25,000 tickets had been sold for the international game.
“There is great enthusiasm for this event and we are thrilled about the fans’ response,” declared Impact Executive Vice President Richard Legendre. “It will be a unique occasion to see this legendary club at home, in Montreal. Our city is more and more asserting itself as one of the great international soccer markets in North America.”
Various excellent tickets are still available for this match and can be purchased either through Admission, or at the ticketing offices of the Olympic Stadium and Saputo Stadium. Top category ticket holders will get the chance to attend the training session of the Milanese club, on June 1, at Saputo Stadium.
