SEATTLE 1 IMPACT 0

Sounders forward Sébastien Letoux scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute. On the sequence, midfielder Leighton O’Brien centered the ball with a header to Letoux, who was posted on the goal line. The latter scored with a header in an empty goal.

“It’s unusual for us, but on this play we left a very good player like Letoux on his own and when you do that, this is the outcome. And on our side, unfortunately we did not score today,” said Impact head coach John Limniatis.

In the first half, the Impact created a number of scoring chances, notably when forward Roberto Brown hit the post in the 26th minute. The Sounders’ first shot happened in the 35th minute.

“In the first half, we did a lot of good things and we played very well but the finishing touches were not there,” added Limniatis. “We were playing against a very good and organized team and they knew exactly what to do.”

“We dominated the whole game and they scored on their single chance,” said defender Adam Braz. “We came out with energy and we dictated the rhythm of the game. But when you don’t score you’re never going to win. We had problems scoring and we gave a goal on a lone chance. This is really the story of the last two games.”

Midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo replaced Simon Gatti in the 29th minute after having been lightly injured in the eye, following a contact in centerfield with Sounders midfielder Youssouf Kante. Fortunately, no damage was done to Gatti’s cornea.

“We are not going to lose our morale because we are a good team,” said team captain Mauro Biello, who was playing his 350th career game in the USL First Division. “We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and see what we can do better to help the team. If every single one of us puts the effort, we are going to be a better team. We have to roll up our sleeves and keep going.”

The Impact had sold 12,890 tickets. Despite pouring rain during the first half, approximately 8,000 people attended the game.

The Impact will play a third consecutive game at home, this Friday, July 18, against the Miami FC at Saputo Stadium, at 7:30 pm (Radio-Canada, FSW, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990).
