The Pre-Academy at the Celtix Haut-Richelieu tournament

Last weekend, the five Montreal Impact Pre-Academy teams, from U8 to U12, were in action at the Celtix Haut-Richelieu tournament.

While it’s common the Pre-Academy teams play games on the weekend, these tournaments are always welcomed by the Pre-Academy coordinator Yoann Damet.

“It gives the kids a chance to compete in an additional competition during the winter,” explains Yoann Damet. “They can play and share more together with a day full of games. Tournaments are interesting because as the day goes on, we are able to give constructive comments relevant to the objectives we established earlier in the day. The players can then apply what we tell them in the following games.”

In the end, every team had the chance to play four or five games.

“I was happy with the identity in our game that came out of the teams,” adds Damet. “All our teams are on the same page. Regarding the style of play, there are both technical and tactical accomplishments but also areas we think we can work on for the rest of the season. Players were happy to play together and we saw it.”

The identity, on and off the field, is a key element at the Academy, but also around the entire club. When the first team head coach Mauro Biello took over, he focused on this identity. Biello, who was also at the tournament, is surely delighted to note that the identity is also transmitted and lived by the youngest in the club.
