Canada will face El Salvador in a friendly in Houston on October 8
MONTREAL – Midfielders Samuel Piette and Louis Béland-Goyette, as well as striker Anthony Jackson-Hamel, have been called up by the Canadian national team to take part in an upcoming training camp that will conclude with an international friendly against El Salvador, on Sunday, October 8, at BBVA Compass Stadium, in Houston, Texas. A portion of the net proceeds will be donated to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
The three players will join the national team on October 1, in Toronto, after the trip to Colorado, and will rejoin the squad in time for the derby against Toronto FC, on October 15.
Piette, 22, has recorded two assists in 36 games with the Canadian national team, including 22 starts. He made his senior debut with the Reds at the age of 17, on June 3, 2012, against the United States. He recently took part in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, starting all four games during the tournament. He had previously played in the 2013 and 2015 editions, while also appearing in several 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification games. He also represented Canada at the U17, U20 and U23 levels and played in the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico.
Béland-Goyette, 22, receives his first call-up to the Canadian men’s national team. He previously played two games with the U23 team at the Pan American Games, as well as four games with the U20s at the CONCACAF U20 Championship in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in 2015.
Jackson-Hamel, 24, has three goals and two assists in eight games with the Canadian national team, making his senior debut in a friendly game against Mauritania on October 6, 2016. He made three appearances at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He scored his first international goal on January 22, 2017, in a friendly against Bermuda, and recently recorded one goal and one assist in a 2-0 win over Jamaica in an international friendly, in Toronto. He previously played five games with the Canadian U23 national team, including four starts, at the 2015 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
