A perfect Saturday and a tough Sunday for the Impact in Development Academy

Baktobak

The three Impact teams in Development Academy were in Connecticut last weekend to play two games in two days, first against Beachside SC on Saturday, and then against Oakwood SC on Sunday.

Impact U15

The Impact U15 won its Saturday game 3-1 against Beachside SC, with goals coming from Matthew Catavolo, Gabriel Antinoro and Hugo Spinola.

The day after, against Oakwood SC, Antinoro opened the score in the first half, but the locals came back with two second half goals to get the win.

With an 8-3-0 record, the Impact U15 is now second of its group, behind the New England Revolution.

Impact U17

Nicolas Gagnon’s group started the game on the wrong foot, allowing the first goal to Beachside in the second half. They still managed to come back in the last ten minutes of the game by scoring two goals, from Moulay Abdallah Kanzi Belghiti and Sean Rea, to win 2-1.

The day after, the Impact U17 didn’t manage the comeback as they lost 2-0 against Oakwood SC.

“We dominated Saturday’s game by creating chances, but we were often unbalanced,” said Impact U17 head coach Nicolas Gagnon. “We gave them too many chances to score. Sunday, we didn’t deliver. Our mentality wasn’t good enough and we didn’t apply our principles.”

With a 7-3-0 record, the team remains at the top of its group, just in front of BW Gottschee.

Impact U19

As one of the best teams of its category, the Impact U19 automatically becomes the team to beat for its opponent.

On Saturday, the Bleu-blanc-noir won 7-0 against Beachside. Mathieu Choinière and Tristan Resendes scored two goals each, while Vincent Lamy, Clément Bayiha and Mikale Fontaine score the other goals.

On Sunday, Oakwood succeeded where all other teams failed, tying 2-2 against the Impact U19. Mathieu Choinière and Vincent Lamy scored the only Impact goals.

“It’s always tough to play two games in two days and even more when it’s on the road,” said Impact U19 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “After a good first game, we faced Oakwood, a team that was in playoff mode, in difficult playing conditions. It’s a good team that was well organized and that offered us something different than what we faced so far. The players responded well, but this game was a good reminder of what’s coming for us in the next few weeks with a tough away game in New York and three games in Florida at the end of the month.”

The Impact U19 is first of its group with a 9-0-1 record.

Next games

The Academy teams have a tough game coming up this weekend, as they go to New York to face New York City FC, who won at the U15 and U17 level when they visited Montreal a few weeks ago.

The U15 team will play at 10am, the U17 at noon and the U19 at 2pm.
