Perfect pitch

radio radio

If you haven’t heard the electro hip-hop stylings of Radio Radio yet, you might want to take a listen.

Not simply because their albums have garnered them an Independent Music Award and an East Coast music award, but more importantly, because one of their front men, Jacques Alphonse Doucet, is part of the Impact family as a season ticket holder!

“I would come once in a while to games and loved the ambiance,” said Doucet, who has been a member since 2013. “But, with my schedule and being from Nova Scotia, it was hard for me to commit to every game, yet I still wanted to support the club. So I bought one season ticket in the supporters section. Even though I go unaccompanied to games whenever I can, I’m never alone as I am always chanting or chatting with other supporters.”

Doucet caught the soccer bug watching the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and began following the game more closely when the Impact joined MLS.

Now, he already has some great memories as a member of the Impact family.

“I got goose bumps when I watched the game that qualified the Impact for the Champions League finals,” he enthused. “Then, watching the first leg of the finals in Mexico at a bar jammed with fans, the ambiance was unreal. Making the playoffs in 2013 was incredible too. These are things I won’t forget.”

Radio Radio and the official Impact anthem
The Radio Radio duo has a very diverse background.  Doucet, with Amerindian roots from Clare, Nova Scotia, joined forces with Gabriel Louis Bernard Malenfant, from Moncton, New Brunswick, to produce a new genre of electro-rap, performed an Acadian French with English influences.

And while their songs cover important issues with humour and melody, their music stylings will now become part of Impact folklore.

Joining forces with Vidéotron Mobile, who as a club partner, put together a project to record an official Impact ‘anthem’ to help rally fans and add to the club’s soccer culture and Radio Radio was the perfect collaborators for its vision.

With the song and video in the final stages of production, Doucet admitted that as an Impact supporter, he “anxiously awaits the debut of Didier Drogba,” but thanks to Radio Radio, he and the club’s supporters will have an official anthem waiting for him.
