Midfielder Yannick Rome-Gosselin opened the scoring in the 57th minute, out running an Astros defender and the goalkeeper Kingsley Alarcon. In the 86th minute, defender Bonheur Aubey doubled the Academy lead with a shot that beat the goalkeeper to his right, after a precise cross coming from the right wing by Rome-Gosselin. Midfielder Hussein Awada scored the insurance goal in the 90th minute with a shot just inside the six-yard box.
Academy goalkeeper Dominic Provost came up with key saves and registered the shutout, while North York keeper Kingsley Alarcon was even more busy, facing many shots from the Academy.
“We dominated the match today and it is very satisfying,” stated Academy head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “The result confirms that the work we did over the last two weeks. We had a lot of scoring chances and we could have scored more goals, but we showed a little bit efficiency in front of the net.”
Midfielder Bastien Bourgault was not in the line-up due to an automatic one-game suspension after receiving two yellow cards in the last match against the Brampton Lions.
The Impact reserve team will play its next two games on the road and will return to Saputo Stadium on September 11 to face the Toronto Croatia at 1pm.
