“It’s a difficult championship on the road. All teams in the league fight hard to get points on the road.”
Defender Hassoun Camara brought up that very good point after training last Friday, which inspired Impact Media to investigate a little further and see what the stats had to say.
And in fact, Hassoun is absolutely right. Playing on the road is extremely tough. A quick look at the road records for all the teams in MLS proves it.
There is only one team that is playing .500 on the road. Sporting Kansas City has the best road record in the whole league, going 5-5-3 in 13 matches. Every other team in the league is below the break-even point.
No team has won more than five times away from home so far this season.
Of the 19 clubs, the Impact is not doing too badly, sitting smack dab in the middle in 10th spot with a record of 3-6-3. Seeing that getting any kind of a result on the road is a good result, the Impact managed to earn points in half of its games away from Stade Saputo.
Just to show how difficult it is to get points on the road, last year’s Supporters Shield winners, the San Jose Earthquakes, have managed just one win, going 1-10-3 in 14 games played. Even the LA Galaxy, winner of the 2012 MLS Cup, has a worse winning percentage than the Impact in 2013 with a record of 4-8-2.
After a draw in Philadelphia last Saturday, a victory in New England on Sunday would put the Impact right near the top in the league in road games.
