MONTREAL – The New England Revolution won the second edition of the International U14, presented by the Fédération des producteurs d’oeufs du Québec.
They won the final 1-0 against Bologna FC 1909 Sunday afternoon, at Centre Nutrilait, on a game-winning goal by Felipe Vieira in the 25th minute.
“The 2017 edition of the International U14 gave us high-level games, that were fun to watch and with good pace, going even beyond last year’s edition with very competitive matches,” said Academy Director Philippe Eullaffroy. “I want to thank this year’s participating teams and congratulate New England for going all the way and winning the final.”
Eliot Jones, from the Revolution, was awarded the Best Goalkeeper trophy, while Joseph Collins (Atlanta United FC) and Samuel White (New England Revolution) finished top scorers of the International U14 with three goals each. The trophy for the Most Valuable Player of the tournament was awarded to Javier Casas, from the Chicago Fire.
The Houston Dynamo received the Fair Play trophy, going to the team that showed the best sportsmanship throughout the competition.
This year, a total of eight teams took part in the International U14, twice as many as in 2016.
Last year, in the first edition of the tournament, D.C. United won the competition in the final against Bologna FC 1909.
