MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact held a draw on Wednesday to determine the groups for the International U14 qualification tournament, presented by Nutrilait, which will take place at Centre Nutrilait on April 29-30.
The 16 participating teams will be split in four groups. Each team will face all three group opponents once before moving on to the next round. The tournament winner will qualify for the International U14, presented by the Fédération des producteurs d’oeufs du Québec, from June 29 to July 2.
“The results of the draw and the quality of the teams participating are a sign of a high-level competition,” said Montreal Impact Academy director Philippe Eullaffroy. “We are excited to see who will be the winner that will qualify for the International U14.”
Groups
Group A: Rebelles de l’Est, AS NDG, AS Saint-Lambert, AS Hull
Group B: FC Trois Lacs, CS Longueuil, Lakeshore Soccer Club, Spatial de Saint-Hubert
Group C: AS Gatineau, CS Saint-Laurent, CS Roussillon, CS Montréal-Nord
Group D: Étoiles de l’Est, Braves d’Ahuntsic, CS L’Assomption, CS Mont-Royal Outremont
“First, all the teams participating are good teams,” said CS Longueuil Technical Director Anthony Rimasson. “As for the draw, we know Saint-Hubert well since they play in our league. I’m also satisfied to have two big teams that we don’t usually see. It will be rewarding for the players for the football that they will play, but also for the exchanges they will have.”
“We are in a good group and all the teams will be strong,” said CS Mont-Royal Outremont Technical Director Kyriakos Selaidopoulos. “We will have a team composed of U13 and U14 players. It’s also a good visibility for the young players and the Griffons as a partner club. As an ex-Impact player, I would have loved to have something like this at that age.”
“We are happy to face teams that we don’t see often for geographical reasons,” said AS Hull Technical Director Antony Ramel. “We are happy to participate in this nice event, mostly to give a rewarding experience to our players.”
The winning team that will participate in the International U14 will have the opportunity to face the Montreal Impact, Bologna FC, D.C. United, the Chicago Fire, the New England Revolutions, Atlanta United FC and the Houston Dynamo.
