Mock Draft: Who could the Impact pick at the MLS SuperDraft?

MLSsoccer.com draft experts Simon Borg, Matthew Doyle and Nate Sulat played manager and held a mock draft of their own ahead of Thursday’s SuperDraft (12pm ET) to see which college prospect might end up where.

With the Impact selecting in the 10th spot, Sulat and Doyle are in the consensus that Montreal could call the name of defender Ben Sweat from South Florida.

“Montreal spent most of last season at a speed deficit on the flanks,” said Doyle. “Sweat, who is an overlapping left back in the most modern of interpretations, should help solve that almost immediately.”

Added Sulat: “There are so many different directions the Impact could go here, but it’s tough to find mobile, creative left backs that have Sweat’s physical capabilities.”

Borg went in a little different direction, selecting midfielder Marlon Hairston, who went 8th overall in both of the other mock drafts.

The Louisville grad is “the kind of player the Impact like: technical and clean on the ball,” said Borg.

Hairston is an athletic specimen, having finished in the top 10 in all physical tests at the Combine.
