MLS NEXT - Week 6: A great Saturday for the Academy

The U15 (5-1-2) and U17 (3-4-1) teams had a great weekend against Cedar Stars Academy at Centre Nutrilait, scoring seven goals and recording two clean sheets.

U17vsCedar

A spectacular first half for the U17s

It took only 45 minutes for the U17 players to get a comfortable win on Saturday over Cedar Stars. Defender Gaël de Montigny opened the scoring with a pass from Rafael Coulanges in the fourth minute of play. Two minutes later, Marc-Alexandre Happi Emaga took advantage of Sébastien Udell Joseph's poorly saved shot to score the second goal.

Head coach Maxime Leconte's players continued their dominance with another goal on the half hour mark. Emrik Fotsing cleverly volleyed a deflection off the near post. A nice back pass from David Mavakala led to the fourth goal by Udell Joseph.

Antoine Sedar N'Diaye added his name to the scoresheet just before halftime on a great individual play, lobbing the ‘keeper from 40 meters out and leaving him no chance. The game was already over before a scoreless second half. Final score: 5-0.

"It's a game that reflects our good week of training,” said Maxime Leconte. “The team followed the instructions well and quickly took a 2-0 lead after 10 minutes. It's very positive to score five goals, even more so against an opponent who has been undefeated since the beginning of the season. We need to build on that to create momentum while continuing to work, and not slacking off like we did in the second half."

U17 Starting XI: Derrien-Lairet – St Pierre – Godin – Pierre Alexis – G. De Montigny – Sedar N’Diaye (cap.) – Fotsing – Mavakala – Udell Joseph – R. Coulanges – Happi Emaga

U15s remain undefeated at home

With four wins in four games in Montreal, Centre Nutrilait has become a fortress for the U15 team who added a second consecutive clean sheet. They were patient against the Cedar Stars' low block. Armand Kadiamba scored the first goal with a beautiful low shot from outside the box. He then set up teammate Eliott Germain-Aubrey for the second goal in the second half, who scored his fifth of the season. Another well-managed win for head coach Esteban Landazabal's squad. Final score: 2-0.

"We knew Cedar Stars would play a defensive block, so it was a challenge for us,” said Esteban Landazabal. “We found the solutions to score two goals even if we lacked creativity. We are happy because we remain undefeated at home, but we must manage to score more goals in these kinds of games. We kept possession and created chances but a performance like this may not be enough against a more challenging opponent."
