On August 22, members of the Montreal media were invited to a very special match at Stade Saputo. For the first time since the expansion of the stadium in 2012, those who cover the team became the actors of the beautiful game.
After a 20-minute warmup orchestrated by the club’s soccer schools, the MLS anthem played over the speakers as the Montreal journalists took to the field for the kickoff of an epic 60-minute duel.
The blue team was led by head coach of the Impact U16, Wilfried Nancy, while the white squad took instructions from U18 head coach Jason Di Tullio. Some Academy players also participated in the game in order to raise the skill level in the game (oh just slightly).
With referee Heath Pearce making the calls, the Blue team came back in the second half to win 5-4. It is rumored that Jason has still not recovered.
