Designated Player

Marco Di Vaio: "I am hoping to bring something even more to the team"

Marco Di Vaio 2014 Preseason

Head coach Frank Klopas met with Designated Player Marco Di Vaio for dinner during the offseason to discuss philosophies.

When addressing the media after the first day of training camp on Monday, Klopas joked that the only reason he came to Montreal was because Di Vaio promised to score even more goals than the 20 the Italian striker managed last season.

But the truth is Di Vaio doesn’t care how many goals he scores. His focus remains on winning.

“Every year is different,” said the 2013 MLS All-Star. “So I don’t know how many goals I’ll score. But I do know for sure that I will work every day with the team to have a good season. It doesn’t matter if I score 5, 10 or 20 goals.”

And part of winning may be to help his team in other ways than just scoring goals.

“I am hoping to bring something even more to the team this season. I think that I can help my teammates be better with my experience and that’s going to be one of my goals for this season. What’s most important is that I help the team win.”
