Four days after their penalty shootout victory over Pumas UNAM, CF Montréal welcome D.C. United to Stade Saputo in a decisive match in Leagues Cup. A win against the American team would qualify Montreal for the next round of this 2023 Leagues Cup edition, which includes MLS and Liga MX teams in a single and unique tournament (see our dedicated page).
On Saturday, Montreal pulled off a hard-fought victory over Pumas UNAM. Tied 2-2 at the end of regulation time, head coach Hernán Losada's men won in the penalty shoot-out, belong to a decisive Jonathan Sirois and a flawless performance from the Montreal shooters. The result leaves CF Montréal at the first place in the group (with two points) ahead of Pumas UNAM (one point) and D.C. United.
Led by star striker Christian Benteke, D.C. United will play their first match against Montreal before welcoming Pumas UNAM to Audi Field on Saturday for the final match of the group phase. Montreal and D.C. United have already met in MLS this season, with Wayne Rooney's men winning 1-0 at Stade Saputo. Following that defeat, the Bleu-blanc-noir had racked up eight consecutive home wins in all competitions.
