Idriss Chergui (JS Kabylie), on a pass from Denis Stinat (Stade brestois 29), opened the scoring in the 13th minute, while Igor Djoman (EA Guingamp) doubled the invited players’ lead in the 26th minute. The invited goalkeepers Stephen Paterson and Matt Pyzdrwoski shared a light workload for the clean sheet.
“We saw a lot of quality on the field at this camp over the last five days,” said Impact technical director Nick De Santis. “We’ll carefully analyze everything we saw before making any decisions about what we need for the club. Certain positions are higher up on our priority list. We’d like to invite some of these players to our official training camp and it’s also possible that other players who weren’t at the invitational tryout this week will participate.”
“The invited players demonstrated exemplary attitudes this week, training and playing with a lot of intensity, even if they had nothing to prove,” declared Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. “It was an excellent week.”
The players currently under contract with the Impact will undergo a series of medical tests and physicals next week. Training camp gets underway on February 7, in Brossard, in preparation for the club’s final season in North America’s second division. The Impact will join Major League Soccer in 2012.
The Impact will kick off its 18th season in team history on April 9 in Tampa Bay and will play its home opener at Saputo Stadium on Saturday, April 23, once again versus Tampa Bay FC.
