MONTREAL – The International U14 tournament, presented by the Fédération des producteurs d’oeufs du Québec, starts this Thursday at 1:15pm, at Centre Nutrilait, with a game between the host of the tournament, the Montreal Impact, and the defending champion of the 2016 edition, D.C. United. The tournament, open to the public, will be played until Sunday, July 2.
Bologna FC 1909 will play its first game of the tournament on Thursday at 4:30pm, against the Montréal-Nord Pumas, who won the first edition of the International U14 Qualification Tournament, a unique competition for Quebec’s amateur clubs.
The other participants in the tournament are MLS clubs: Atlanta United FC, Houston Dynamo, Chicago Fire and New England Revolution.
Group stage games will be played from Thursday to Friday afternoon, followed by the quarterfinals at 5:30pm. The semifinals will be played on Saturday and the final on Sunday. You can find the full schedule here.
Group stage games and quarterfinals will be played in two halves of 20 minutes, while the semifinals and finals will be played in two halves of 30 minutes.
Following the draw on June 14, the Montreal Impact is in Group A, with D.C. United, Atlanta United FC and Houston Dynamo, while Bologna FC 1909, the Montreal-Nord Pumas, Chicago Fire and New England Revolution are in Group B.
This year, Montreal Impact first team captain Patrice Bernier is the honorary spokesperson of the event.
The Fédération des producteurs d’oeufs du Québec will have a food truck on site and will offer a protein-based menu.
