Impact wins Mauro Biello Tournament

Tournoi Mauro Biello Impact

For the third straight year, the Impact U14 won the Mauro Biello tournament, which has been held last weekend at Centre Nutrilait.

The competition was played between eight teams, split in two groups of four.

The Impact, facing AS Hull, Mistral de Sherbrooke and Dynamo de Québec, topped its group with three wins in three games. Étoiles de l’Est finished first in Group B.

The Bleu-blanc-noir followed up with a 4-0 win against AS Blainville in its quarterfinal game, and with a 3-2 win after penalty shootouts against AS Hull in the semifinals.

The final finished 4-1 in favour of Eduardo Sebrango’s team, against the Dynamo.

“I’m happy with our performance,” said Impact U14 head coach Eduardo Sebrango. “I knew we had a good group, but we still had many players from different clubs and only had a few weeks to work together. I was pleased with the opposition we faced. Québec, among others, was a well-organized team with good players.”

The Academy staff also gave some individual awards at the end of the tournament. With six goals, Impact player Gabriel Antinoro won the Golden Boot award. Sébastien Vinatea, from CS Longueuil, won the Best Goalkeeper award and Nassim Nouajaa, from Dynamo de Québec, was named the Best Defensive Player of the tournament.

Since they do not play in a regular championship during the season, the Impact U14 used this competition mostly to gain good experience for upcoming tournaments, especially for one in France, in April, and for the International U14, in June.

Eduardo Sebrango’s group will also play in the Amical Haut-Niveau in Longueuil this weekend.
