Fourth game between rivals in 2017
TORONTO, Ontario – The Montreal Impact visits BMO Field for the second time this season, to face Toronto FC this Wednesday at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, TSN, 985sports.ca, CJAD 800).
“Every time we play against Toronto, it’s a big game,” said Impact head coach Mauro Biello. “It’s a great challenge for us, but we look forward to it, as a good performance against the best team in the league may be what we need. We are ready to fight.”
The Bleu-blanc-noir is still involved in the MLS Cup playoff race. Seventh, six points away from sixth place and the New York Red Bulls, the Montreal squad still has six games to play in the regular season.
“Obviously, the context makes this game even more important,” said defender Daniel Lovitz. “We have to get out of there with points. We are all focused on the task ahead. We know that over 90 minutes, we have the capabilities to get the result we want.”
Hunting for points
It will be the Impact’s first visit to BMO Field for a regular season game this year; both clubs faced off in the Queen City for the second leg of the Canadian Championship final, on June 27, a game that finished 2-1 for the hosts in tumultuous circumstances.
The only regular season game between Montreal and Toronto in 2016 in the Ontarian capital went the Impact’s way, a 1-0 win coming thanks to a Nacho Piatti goal. This was the Bleu-blanc-noir’s first MLS win in Toronto.
Torontonians aim for Supporters’ Shield
Greg Vanney’s team is unbeaten since July 1 and has won its two most recent games by 4-0 score lines against both Californian teams. While Sebastian Giovinco is doubtful for this derby match, Jozy Altidore is not expected to be listed on the team sheet.
Upcoming games
The Montreal Impact will enter the Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the first time for a crucial meeting with Atlanta United, on Sunday, September 24, at 5pm (TVA Sports, FOX, 98,5fm, CJAD 800), before returning to Stade Saputo for David Villa’s and New York City FC’s visit, on Wednesday, September 27, at 7:30pm (TVA Sports, TSN, 985sports.ca, CJAD 800 – TICKETS).
