The Impact U18 ties 2-2 against the Rouge et Or

After two straight wins against Concordia and McGill, the Impact U18 remained undefeated this weekend, tying 2-2 against Université Laval.

In the 37th minute, forward Gabriel Balbinotti scored the first goal of the game, heading a cross by Protais Mutambala from the right side. The winger recovered the ball in the opposition box after the forwards applied pressure on the Rouge et Or defenders.

The Impact doubled its lead in the 56th minute when Vincent Lamy scored alone against the goalkeeper, after a pass from Don-Junior Bobe.

The Rouge et Or started pressing the Bleu-blanc-noir and in the 75th minute, they scored after goalkeeper Christopher Hansen-Barkun gave a rebound after saving the first shot.

Hansen-Barkun did a nice save with his face near the end of the game, but in stoppage time, Université Laval scored a goal to tie the game.

“The game was interesting because we faced a team that offered quality,” said Impact U18 head coach Yoann Damet. “The players answered well with good collective sequences, but we also had some slumps. We are still disappointed with the result, because we let the game go in the end. Everyone is involved and shows a competitive spirit that will help us go forward and raise the required level in the preparation.”

The Under-18 team now has two wins and one draw against universities from the province. The team will play its next game on Saturday, February 11, at 9pm, against Université de Montréal, at the Centre multisports régional in Varennes.
