The Impact U18 drew 1-1 against the Université de Montréal Carabins last Saturday, at the Complexe multisports regional, in Varennes, remaining unbeaten this winter in its series of games against Quebec universities, with a record of two wins and two draws.

The Carabins were the first to score early in the game. After a long throw-in sent in Montreal’s box, the ball touched an Impact player before crossing the goal line.

In the second half, the Bleu-blanc-noir made some adjustments to take the lead in the game.

In the 78th minute, Junior Camara crossed the ball to the second post for Marques Antoine, who finished, bringing both teams level in the game.

Despite a few chances in the end of the game, the Impact U18 wasn’t able to find the back of the net and had to make do with the draw.

“We entered the last phase of preparation before we return to the USSDA championship on March 4,” said Impact U18 head coach Yoann Damet. “We faced problems in the game that we will have to face during the season. We had a compact block in front of us that didn’t leave a lot of space to play and they were always looking to exploit the depth when they recovered the ball. With this, we were able to see our capacity to solve problems.”

“Players showed quality to get the ball back, but also in combining and speeding up,” added Damet. “We created interesting situations and were rewarded in the end of the game. I’m happy with the team spirit, the atmosphere is studious and everyone wants to contribute.”

Midfielders Mathieu Choinière and Luca Ricci were not available for this game. They played earlier in the day in the first team’s intrasquad game.

The team will play its next game on Sunday, February 19, at 2pm, against the UQTR Patriotes, at the Complexe sportif Alphonse-Desjardins.
