As the United States Soccer Development Academy regular season breaks for the winter, the Impact U18 and U16 are currently in Florida to take part in the 2014 USSDA Winter Showcase, starting this weekend.
The Winter Showcase has become a staple in the Academy calendar over the years as the U16 and U18 age groups look forward to three competitive matches against out-of-conference opponents.
“It’s part of the regular season schedule, so the points count in the standings,” said Impact Academy Director Philippe Eullaffroy. “It’s interesting for us to play teams outside our division, getting to play against different academies from across the two countries. For the staff, we get to see the coaching methodology of other teams, the different approaches and styles. For the players, they live a playoff type experience, where it’s the same system with all teams playing games in the same place. For the club, it’s a chance to see how we stack up against the top clubs.”
