The Impact U17 earned its first points in the Generation adidas Cup qualification phase, last Saturday at Centre Nutrilait, in a 2-0 win against Toronto FC U17.
Montreal took a quick lead in this one. After an overlap on the left flank in the 15th minute, defender Oscar Marshall crossed the ball into the box for midfielder Sean Rea, who took it one time, beating the keeper to the left.
Just a minute later, goalkeeper Benjamin Collins made a point-blank save on the goal line to help maintain his team’s lead.
In the 24th minute, winger Jérémie Omeonga scored off a spectacular volley into the top left corner following a corner from Sean Rea.
The Impact held its lead until halftime.
In the second half, a TFC player was ejected from the game following a red card. Both teams earned their fair share of opportunities, but the game would finish at 2-0.
It’s a first win in three qualifying games in the GA Cup for Nicolas Gagnon’s team, who lost against FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City last week.
The last three games of GA Cup qualifying will be played in February in Houston, Texas, against the Columbus Crew SC (February 15), the Chicago Fire (February 16) and the Houston Dynamo (February 18).
The Impact has to be onw of the top two teams in its group to qualify for the Champions Division, or one of the two best third-placed teams. The other teams will qualify to the Premier Division.
The Impact U19 in New York
The Impact U19 took part in the MLS Jamboree in New York last week and did well, winning both its games. The team won 3-2 against NYCFC on Saturday, with goals from Woobens Pacius, Zachary Fernandez and Calin Calaidjoglu. A day later, the Impact beat the New York Red Bulls 4-2 with goals from Woobens Pacius, Tristan Resendes, Cédric Toussaint and Calin Calaidjoglu.

Development Academy action will be back this weekend, as the U15, U17 and U19 Impact teams will be in Epping, New Hampshire, to face Seacoast United. The U15 team will play at 9am, the U17 at 11am and the U19 at 1pm.
