MONTREAL – The Impact U17 will have the opportunity to add to its historic season when it faces Atlanta United FC in the Development Academy playoff semifinals on Sunday, at 12pm, at the Swope Soccer Village, in Kansas City.
This is the first time the club’s U17 team reached the league’s semifinals since the Academy’s creation. The U19 team, previously in the U18 category, reached the semifinals twice, in 2014 and 2015, finishing respectively in third and fourth place.
Nicolas Gagnon’s team made it to the final four after an excellent season, where it finished first in its division with a 17-6-3 record and an impressive total of 74 goals scored in 26 games. The Bleu-blanc-noir followed that up with great performances in the playoff group phase, winning its three games and then winning 1-0 against Sacramento Republic FC in the quarterfinals.
The other semi-finalists in the U17 category are the Seattle Sounders FC and Barca Academy. The first and third place finals will be played on Tuesday, also in Kansas City. The time of the games is still to be determined.
The U17 team also had a great experience in the end of March, when it took part in the Generation adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas. In the semifinals, they lost 2-1 against the same Seattle team they might face in one of the finals.
The playoff semifinals and finals will be streamed live on the U.S. Soccer’s YouTube account.
