Impact U16: Aiming for the playoffs

There are only 10 games left in the Impact U16’s season in USSDA. Right now, the team is out of the playoff picture, but its objective remains to qualify.

“We want to reach the playoffs. We have until June to reach our goal,” says Impact U16 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “This last phase will be really interesting since it allows us to see if the players can play under pressure. If we are consistent and get good performances, I think we can do it.”

To succeed, the Bleu-blanc-noir will have to work hard, and even there, it won’t be easy. The team was playing a friendly game against a New Brunswick selection on April 11 and lost 1-0.

“Since the beginning, I knew we didn’t have a lot of flexibility,” explains Wilfried Nancy. “We always have to be at our best in the four aspects of the game: tactically, physically, technically and mentally. If we fail somewhere, we won’t pass. That’s the reason why it’s a hard working group. In training, there is no problem. I’m confident, but we will have to be consistent.”

The Impact is in 5th position in the Northeast division. Of its 10 remaining games, five are against teams in a better position in the standings: two against Beachside SC (4th) and one against Everton FC Westchester (3rd), New England Revolution (2nd) and BW Gottschee Academy (1st).

Esleyder Luarca and Gabriel Balbinotti have led the way offensively in USSDA with six and five goals respectively.
