MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact Academy announced on Thursday that the U14 team, led by head coach Eduardo Sebrango, will participate in the Tournoi Sans Frontière in Sens, France, for a second consecutive year, from March 30 to April 2.
This year marks the 25th edition of the tournament and for the occasion, the organizers invited 25 teams. The Impact finds itself in Group C in the company of some major clubs: Paris Saint-Germain, Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Toulouse FC and AJ Auxerre.
“We’re happy to participate in the Tournoi Sans Frontière for a second straight year,” said Impact U14 head coach Eduardo Sebrango. “Our main objective is to showcase our quality and our principles of play, while paying a little more attention than we usually do to game management in order to obtain positive results. This tournament is perfect for testing young players in a more high-pressure environment. The group we are in is very difficult, because they are all quality clubs with a lot of history.”
Other than the adversaries in the Impact’s group, other major Europeans clubs are also participating such as Juventus F.C., Atlético Madrid and FC Zenith Saint Petersburg, as well as many other French clubs. This year, the Houston Dynamo will also join the Impact and represent MLS at the tournament, the Texan club finding themselves in Group A.
Last year, the Impact U14 won the Mauro Biello tournament in the beginning of the month of October. Many of Eduardo Sebrango’s players also got playing time in the Development Academy with the Impact U15.
In 2017, it was Serge Dinkota’s team that had participated in the competition. They made quite an impression, finishing in 11th out of 24 teams. The team stood out with good performances, including a 2-0 victory against AS Saint-Étienne and a 1-1 draw against AS Monaco.
