Impact U13 team to take part in CONCACAF Champions League

Tournoi U14

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday that its U13 team will take part in the CONCACAF U13 Champions League in Mexico, from July 23 to July 30.

The club’s U13 team competes in the Champions League for the second time in two years.

A total of 16 teams will be divided in four groups of four teams. The Impact will be joined by Instituto Cedrus (Mexico), ADFA Ahuachapan (Salvador) and CS Herediano (Costa Rica) in Group D.

“The tournament format changed with the number of teams, as there were only eight last year,” said Impact U13 head coach Serge Dinkota. “We are going with our players born in 2003 and some in 2002 that are eligible. It’s the Champions League, so we expect a high level of soccer and a competition that won’t be easy, but interesting for the boys. The players saw the first team reach the final and the spotlight turn toward Quebec and Montreal. They remember that and it builds a sense of belonging among the kids.”

Ten different countries from North and Central America will be represented in the tournament. Two other MLS clubs, Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps FC, are among the participants.

Here is the Impact’s schedule:

July 23, 3pm EDT: ADFA Ahuachapan vs Montreal Impact

July 24, 1pm EDT: Montreal Impact vs CSD Herediano

July 25, 11am EDT: Instituto Cedrus vs Montreal Impact

July 27: Quarterfinals

July 29: Semifinals

July 30: Finals

In 2015, the Impact U13 finished 4th in the tournament. Goalkeeper Benjamin Collins was named best goalkeeper of the competition.
