The Montreal Impact came close to lifting the trophy as champions of the third edition of the U14 Mauro Biello tournament, last Sunday, losing 2-0 to the Sherbrooke Sprint in the final at the Marie-Victorin Sports Complex.
In the tournament quarterfinal, the Impact U13 beat Lakeshore 5-4 in a shootout following a 1-1 tie, and then won 2-1 against l’Assomption in its semifinal game.
“It was important for us to make the finals, but regretfully we didn’t have our best performance in the last game,” said U13 Impact head coach Antoine Guldner. “However, the five matches to get to the final were very positive. We saw our identity shine through our play and we played with a lot of determination. I am pleased that our games were entertaining and emotional. All participants showed team spirit and fair play, while having fun on the pitch.”
The U16s and U18s were also represented, fulfilling different logistic roles in support of the tournament.
