SENS, France – The Impact U13 team finished its journey with a penalty shootout win over Toulouse FC in the 11th-place playoff at the 24-team Tournoi Sans Frontières in Sens, France, Monday, after the game ended 0-0 in regulation.
In the first half, Yvann Dogny created a fine chance when he took the ball from the opposing goalkeeper, but the defenders quickly closed him down, forcing him to play the ball back instead of attempting a shot.
Just before halftime, the referee pointed to the spot to award Toulouse a penalty. But goalkeeper Hamadi-Jed Hmida did well to dive on the left side and make the save.
The second half remained goalless.
In the penalty shootout, the Impact U13 players scored on all of their shots, while Toulouse FC’s third penalty taker hit the bar with his attempt. The Bleu-blanc-noir won the penalty shootout 5-3 to finish 11th at the Tournoi Sans Frontières.
The Impact leaves Sens with a record of three wins, two draws and three losses, winning against Pôle Espoirs Bourgogne, AS Saint-Étienne and Toulouse FC. The Bleu-blanc-noir also faced Bordeaux, Monaco, Marseille and Rennes.
Rennes won the tournament after a 1-0 final win over Nantes.
