ORLANDO, Florida – The Montreal Impact will face Sporting Kansas City in its second game of the Disney Pro Classic tournament on Sunday, 3pm ET, at the ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex in Orlando. The game will be streamed live on montrealimpact.com.
“It’s always good to play right away after a result like that,” said Impact assistant coach Denis Hamlett, referring the Impact’s 3-0 loss in its opening game to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Friday. “We get to see how our guys will respond. Sporting Kansas City plays 4-2-3-1 pretty well and they like to get their backs forward so we have to be ready defensively for that. But in the end, we are working to fine tune everything for March 10 when we play our first game.”
With just 14 days before the team’s inaugural game on March 10, at BC Place, this tournament is the last opportunity for the Impact to play games before its historic season.
“We were a little disappointed with yesterday’s result,” said midfielder Collen Warner. “But at the same time, we can’t look into it too much. It is preseason and we are looking to build as a team. There might be some stumbles along the way, but I think everyone has responded to it well, and that’s the only way to get better.”
Sporting Kansas City, Impact midfielder Davy Arnaud’s former team, earned a scoreless draw in its first game of the Disney Classic against the Houston Dynamo.
Arnaud played 10 seasons with Kansas City before joining the Impact on November 28, via trade.
“I’m excited for the game,” said Arnaud. “I played with those guys for a long time, so it will be different to line up on the other side of them, but I’m looking forward to it and it should be a good game. KC has a good core of guys from last year and we have to math them athletically and find the right moments to get up the field.”
The Impact has a record of 4-3-5 in preseason action since the start of camp. The Houston Dynamo will be the Impact’s third and final opponent of the group stage on Tuesday, February 29, at 8pm ET.
The Impact will play its home opener at Olympic Stadium on March 17, against the Chicago Fire, at 2pm.
Season tickets are available online at impactmontreal.com or by calling 514-328-3668 while individual tickets for the five games presented at Olympic Stadium are available through Admission.
