Impact players are not giving up

Davy Arnaud Zarek Valentin vs Houston Dynamo

With three games remaining, the Impact must go on winning streak to end the season if it hopes to make the playoffs. It will also need help from other teams fall along the way.

Here is what some of the players and coaches have to say:

Head Coach Jesse Marsch: “If we are alive and we go down to Houston and get a win, you never know at that point the way things can play out. At the end of the year, there is pressure and things are crazy. We are still alive. We had a bit of an unbalanced schedule at the beginning of the year, and that may have hurt us a little, but all teams at one point in the season could have complained about their schedule. It is what it is and we still have a chance, so we will do everything we can to be ready for the Houston game.”

Defender Jeb Brovsky: “I don’t think there is one guy in the locker that has said that we are out of it. If we go into Houston thinking we are out of it, we might as well pack our things and go home. We also want to finish as the best Canadian team at the end of the year. With the rivalries that exist, we want that title, but we still want the playoffs and right now, we are looking at our next match in Houston. We’ll see what happens after that.”

Forward Andrew Wenger: “It is a little frustrating that we have put ourselves in this situation, but we have to make the best of it. We have to continue moving forward because there still is a lot to play for. There are a lot of things to accomplish, so we are working towards that.”

Captain Davy Arnaud: “At the end of the day and as bleak as it looks, we are still not out of it. I think if we can go to Houston on Saturday and win, make Houston think about it a little bit, and as a result, make Columbus think about it a little bit. There still might be a chance for us. Regardless of what happened last weekend, we know we have to go into Houston and win the game.”

Goalkeeper Troy Perkins: “Personally, my mentality is just going down there and winning. It doesn’t matter where we sit or where we are in the standings. No team has gone and won there yet. We have to be strong and expect to get three points in that game. That’s all we can control right now and no one has given up.”
