MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact will put an end to its 2017 campaign on Sunday at 4pm, when they take on the New England Revolution (TVA Sports, TSN, 98,5fm, CJAD 800), a game presented by KIA. Excellent tickets for Sunday’s game are still available on impactmontreal.com, which also happens to be the last career game of Impact captain and midfielder Patrice Bernier.
“We celebrate a great player who had a great career, but we also celebrate a great man,” said Impact head coach Mauro Biello. “I hope we can have a good performance to salute him. Patrice Bernier has given a lot to this club and to this city. We would like his last game to go the right way, in order to finish the season and his career on a good note.”
The IMFC Summer prolongs itself until the end of October. Les Jacks will be on stage as of 2pm and our special 2 for 1 promotion on all beverages at Stade Saputo is still available, from 1:30pm, as the doors open, until 2:30pm. The Impact encourages you to take public transportation and to be there early. Also, an array of contests will give spectators a chance to win many prizes in honor of Supporters’ Appreciation Day, notably a one-year rental for a Kia or an official jersey signed by a player.
As usual, the MLS Bag Policy will be in effect. All backpacks, camera bags and large tote bags, as well as all bags bigger than 35 cm x 35 cm x 15 cm are prohibited.
Please also note that parking entrances have changed names since last season. Entrance PB is now called P5 (orange), while entrance PA has made way for entrances P1, P2 & P4 (yellow).
Farewell to number 8
Patrice Bernier bids farewell to Stade Saputo as a player, captain and icon of Montreal and Quebec soccer. The Brossard native is at the top of many club records in the MLS, such as games played, assists, and game-winning assists, and he truly has made a mark in overall club history when it comes to strict longevity: second for assists, third for minutes played, fourth for starts, and ninth for goals.
Other than statistics, Patrice Bernier made a lifelong dream come true through an international career that lasted 17 years. His love of the game, his tenacity, his technical skill and his leadership allowed him to forge his way not only into the hearts of Montrealers, but into the hearts of all the clubs he’s passed through, whether in Germany, Norway, or Denmark.
‘’I’m going to appreciate this game. It will be special to play in front of my family, my close friends and all the Impact supporters for one last time,’’ said Bernier. “I have the chance to play at home. It’s a little odd to celebrate with so many people, but it’s moving to be able to do this at the same club where I began my career.’’
The Revolution still winless away from home
The visitors have not performed well away from home: the team led by interim head coach Tom Soehn only managed three points on the road in 2017, but still hasn’t won a game outside Gillette Stadium. In their last three away games, the Revs have only scored twice, allowing 16 goals.
Full-back Daniel Lovitz will be available for the Impact after having served a one-game suspension following a red card in Colorado on September 30. However, centre-back Víctor Cabrera will not available due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
