ORLANDO, Florida – The Montreal Impact concluded its training camp tour in Florida with a 1-0 win against Swedish first division side BK Hacken, Saturday, at the ESPN Wide World of Sport Complex, in Orlando.
Forward Eduardo Sebrango scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute. Italian striker Bernardo Corradi redirected the ball with his head to Sebrango, who beat goalkeeper Damir Mehic with a right footed shot towards the second post.
“Another step has been taken with this camp and it’s good to see how the team continues to progress both mentally and physically,” said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. “It was important for us to give our players a chance to touch the ball and get in game shape before embarking on the next step.”
“It’s good for us to finish this trip on a positive note,” said French defender Hassoun Camara. “The hardest part is yet to come, but I think that we are ready to start a new season.”
The Impact created many scoring chances. In the 7th minute, midfielder Davy Arnaud headed a ball just over the net following a cross from the left flank. Arnaud, alone in front of the goalkeeper, just missed to right of the net in the 39th minute.
In the 59th minute, BK Hacken came close to opening the score. A shot by midfielder Jonas Bjustrom hit the crossbar before being cleared by defender Matteo Ferrari.
Forward Miguel Montano also saw his booming shot hit the crossbar in the 69th minute.
Defender Zarek Valentin, midfielder Justin Mapp and forward Andrew Wenger all started the game for the Impact after joining the team in Orlando, on Friday.
Bernardo Corradi, currently on trial with the club, made his first appearance for the club at the start of second half.
The Impact finished its training camp with a record of 6-3-7.
The Impact and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC will meet on March 10, at B.C. Place, in Vancouver, as Montreal will play its first ever regular season game in Major League Soccer. The Impact will then play its home opener at Olympic Stadium on March 17, against the Chicago Fire, at 2pm.
