MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Wednesday the groups for the International U14 tournament, presented by the Fédération des producteurs d’oeufs du Québec, following the official draw which took place at Centre Nutrilait.
The tournament’s 2017 edition, which will be held from June 29th to July 2nd at Centre Nutrilait, features eight teams, twice as many as the previous year.
The Montreal Impact will be in Group A along with D.C. United, Atlanta United FC and the Houston Dynamo.
Group B will feature Bologna FC, the Montreal-Nord Pumas, the Chicago Fire and the New England Revolution.
“The level of competition will be high once again this year, with two very strong groups,” said Montreal Impact Academy Director Philippe Eullaffroy. “For our U14s, these are important moments in their lives as young soccer players, against teams like Atlanta or Houston, and they face an extra challenge against D.C. United, who are the defending champions.”
This year, the Impact also announced that Montreal Impact captain Patrice Bernier will be honorary spokesperson for the International U14.
"It’s with great honour that I accepted to be the honorary spokesperson of the International U14 this year," said Patrice Bernier. "It’s an amazing opportunity for these players to be part of an international competition and to play against players from Montreal, the MLS and Italy."
In 2016, D.C. United won the first edition of the tournament, beating Bologna FC in penalty kicks.
All games are open to the public and will also be broadcast on Facebook Live.
