PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – The Montreal Impact respectively acquired $200,000 in General Allocation Money from FC Dallas and $150,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, in return for its fourth and seventh overall picks at the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
“We had a strategy in place before coming here, which was to obtain allocation money, allowing us to acquire future players,” said Impact head coach Rémi Garde. “Also, with several Academy players knocking on the first team’s door, we did not necessarily want to add players at a similar level. It’s a message to our Academy players that there are opportunities to be taken.”
“We came in with the objective of maximizing the value of our picks and I think we did that,” added technical director Adam Braz. “We’ve shown that homegrown players are important and more are starting to play and contribute. It was definitely a factor in terms of our decisions.”
The Bleu-blanc-noir will take part in its first training session of the year, at Olympic Stadium, on Tuesday, January 23, at 10:15am, before flying in the afternoon to Miami.
