The Montreal Impact will be selecting 14th at the 2016 MLS SuperDraft this Thursday in Baltimore, the lowest ranking its ever had in its four years in MLS, thanks to the club’s first ever Conference semifinals appearance last season.
Historically, the club has had the 1st (2012), 8th (2013), 5th (2014 – originally 10th, but traded up) and 3rd (2015) picks in the first round.
Despite being down the pecking order, there have been some interesting players to don an MLS jersey after being selected in the 14 spot.
Since the SuperDraft’s inception in 2000, MLS veteran defender David Horst was a 14th overall selection in 2008 by Real Salt Lake. Midfielder Ned Grabavoy was scooped up by the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2004 and Shalrie Joseph found a home with the New England Revolution in 2002.
IMFC’s coaching staff is currently in Florida for the MLS combine and hoping that they find the next player to crack an MLS roster as a 14th selection, as well as some interesting prospects for their three second round selections this Thursday.
