What better way to spend your morning in sunny Mexico than on the pitch.
For the Impact, Saturday’s training session represented just a second since landing in the Terra Azteca late Thursday night, but one where the players were focused, with a lot of intensity.
“Friday was a shorter session, spending some time adapting on the field, but Saturday, we had a really good practice,” said defender Hassoun Camara. “One of the best we’ve had all season. There was a lot of quality, which bodes really well for the rest of the week.”
Since the team had just arrived 36 hours prior, the solid effort on the training pitch was a good sign for the team ahead of its historic first leg matchup versus Club América, this Wednesday (TVA Sports, CJAD 800), considering the group is still working on getting acclimatized to the altitude.
And add to that the extra lengthy journey from Montreal to the team’s hotel in Mexico City, with delays due to crazy traffic from Toluca to Mexico City (where the team had to land), along with Mexican border patrol searching through every single one of the team’s bags and crates at what was supposed to be a random inspection point.
Despite that, spirits have been high ever since the boys in bleu-blanc-noir arrived in Ciudad de México.
“We have to be able to enjoy this experience as much as possible,” explained Nigel Reo-Coker, who knows what it’s like to play in big games, having taken part in an FA Cup final with West Ham. “As much as we need to be prepared tactically, we also have to be able to be in the moment and take it all in.”
