Generation adidas Cup 2023: the Academy ready to fight

Our U15 and U17 teams will travel to Florida from March 31 to April 10 to compete in the Generation adidas Cup. This international tournament, created in 2007, is one of the key moments of the season and a great opportunity for our Academy to shine among 49 clubs from twelve different countries.

A big schedule awaits our academicians at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, with seven games in nine days for both teams.

After the initial three group stage matches (April 1-3), the top teams in each group and the top six runners-up will advance to the final round. The eliminated teams will play in a Showcase tournament.

The U15s have been drawn in Group 2 of their division and the U17s in Group 3. They will face two MLS academies and one foreign academy.

U15 Group Phase
New York Red Bulls (USA)
CF Montréal
FC Dallas (USA)
Chelsea FC (ENG)

U17 Group Phase
San José Earthquakes (USA)
Club de Regatas do Flamengo (BRA)
Real Salt Lake (USA)
CF Montréal

Each match lasts two periods of 30 minutes (35 in the final phase).
In the event of a tie in the group stage, there is no extra time but a penalty shoot-out. The winning team gets an extra point.

"This is without a doubt the most famous tournament in North America so it's a very exciting challenge, said U15 head coach Esteban Landazabal. “We are going to face some very interesting teams including Chelsea. The important thing is to have no regrets, to give everything on the field and above all to believe that we can perform no matter the opponent. I feel that the team has the right mindset and we have worked well tactically. We will have to be vigilant on the physical aspect and on recovery because playing seven games in nine days is very demanding so our preparation behind the scenes will be very important. "

"We’re not going to change our style of play for this tournament. Experience will be important, said U17 head coach Maxime Leconte. “The players want to go far but we need to stay focused in order not to be unsettled by the results and the qualifiers. That’s how teams win this kind of tournament. We must master our emotions and control what we can. We must show that we are a mature team now and play one game after the other.”
If we manage to keep our momentum and put our game in place, we will be rewarded. We’re facing very good teams we haven’t played before in a superb context, it’s exciting. "
