Le Gall, 25, is a product of the French club Stade Brestois 29, which has been promoted to France’s Ligue 1 this year. He played nearly 30 games with Brest since 2007. Earlier this year, he was transferred to Plabennec, but did not make an appearance with the French club, which is playing in the Championnat National (3rd division). Le Gall also had a tryout with Montreal in July.
“He is a forward that could also play on the right side. He has a lot of speed and is coming with experience from Ligue 2,” said Impact technical director Nick De Santis. “After a tryout with the team, we decided to wait before making a decision. Now, with some injuries to our players, we believe he can help the team.”
Le Gall becomes the 7th foreigner on the Impact roster, after Philippe Billy (France), Wesley Charles (St. Vincent and the Grenadines), Stephen deRoux (Jamaica), Leonardo Di Lorenzo (Argentina), Richard Pelletier (France) and Filipe Soares (Portugal).
MAYARD RETURNS
Quebec midfielder Pierre-Rudolph Mayard makes his return to the Impact today, after a five month loan spell with the Charleston Battery.
Mayard, 22, helped the Battery win the regular season championship in the USL-2. In 18 games, 16 as a starter, Mayard scored six goals, one in US Open Cup play. In 2009, during his rookie season with the Impact, he had earned three points in eight games.
“The experience was very positive for him,” said De Santis. “He proved that his level of play was above the league he was playing in. Charleston’s head coach had some good things to say about him. He is a player with a lot of talent, but he is still young. He must continue to work hard to earn minutes with the Impact.”
Of note, the league’s roster freeze is Friday, September 3.
SUZUKI PUBLIC PRACTICE
The Impact will hold its fifth of six Suzuki public practices, presented in collaboration with Metro, tonight at 7pm, at the Saint-Alexandre soccer field in Saint-Alexandre-d`Iberville. All the players, the coaching staff and the mascot Tac-Tik will be on hand. There will be door prizes and an autograph session for those in attendance. Admission is free.
The Impact will play its next match this Saturday in Baltimore (7pm, palacebaltimore.com) and will return to Saputo Stadium on Friday, August 27, for its next home game against the Rochester Rhinos (7:30 pm, Radio-Canada, radio-canada.ca/sports/ CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990).
